Dr Sukhnain Singh, a PAU alumnus and popular Punjabi singer, visited the Communication Centre of the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) today and interacted with the senior officials of the extension education.

            Explaining the organizational set up of Communication Centre, Dr TS Riar, Additional Director Communication, highlighted the pivotal role played by the Centre in the dissemination of essential agricultural information through print, electronic and social media. The extension services of PAU were receiving a big boost in the wake of fast paced digitalization, he said, while adding that the University was making all efforts to expand its wings in all the rural areas of Punjab for the welfare of farmers and farming.

            Dr Kuldeep Singh, Head, Department of Extension Education, apprised the visiting member of the Kisan Mobile Advisory Service as a part of extension mechanism of PAU. A group of extension scientists were visiting various villages of Punjab on regular basis to popularise PAU crop varieties, technologies and farm literature as well as help farmers and their families reap financial benefits, he added.

            In an interaction, Dr Sukhnain Singh lauded the role of social media in the popularisation of agri-technologies. Appreciating Communication Centre for the promotion of agricultural knowledge, he said that this would go a long way in benefitting the farmers both on screen (social and electronic media) and off screen (print media-newspapers and agri-literature).
