Netanyahu vows to intensify offensive in Gaza's Rafah

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to intensify attacks on the southern Gaza city of Rafah. Netanyahu has said Israel should send ground forces to Rafah because it is Hamas's last stronghold in Gaza. Due to this, the lives of approximately 14 lakh citizens who have taken shelter here from Gaza Patti will be in danger. However, the international community including America opposed this operation saying that people are taking shelter there. Israel has been saying it has a plan to protect civilians. Netanyahu said in a video on Monday that the Rafah campaign was essential to victory. Without giving further details, he said that this will happen on a specific date. His statement came when Israeli negotiators were discussing international efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement with Hamas in Cairo. At the same time, Israeli soldiers have withdrawn from Khan Yunis, the second biggest city of Gaza Strip, and the native Palestinians have started arriving there, but it will probably take years for this city, which is now in ruins, to regain its original glory. Meanwhile, Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Galant has said that new army units will soon be deployed there for action in Rafah. About 1.4 million homeless Palestinians are taking shelter in Rafah, located near the Egyptian border. Most of the buildings in Khan Yunis have been demolished or badly damaged in the bombings and shelling of the last six months. Same is the condition of schools, hospitals, shopping complexes and other public buildings. The Israeli army has dug at many places in search of tunnels. Excavated sites include roads and several buildings. Due to this digging and passage of tanks, most of the roads have also been ruined. Meanwhile, there are no signs of any significant progress in the ongoing ceasefire talks in Cairo. While Israel is firm on the condition of release of all the hostages, Hamas is firm on the condition of permanent ceasefire. On Monday, for the first time in the six-month-long war, more than 300 trucks carrying relief materials reached Gaza. This has become possible after US President Joe Biden's heated telephone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. The talks between the two leaders took place after seven relief workers were killed in an Israeli attack in Gaza on April 1.
