Punjab Govt Issues Show-Cause Notices to 6 Teachers After Minister’s Surprise School Inspection

Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains issued show-cause notices to six teachers on Wednesday after discovering major academic lapses during a surprise inspection at Government Primary School, Machhiwara. The move reinforces the Bhagwant Mann government’s "zero-tolerance" policy toward educational negligence as part of its ongoing ‘Sikhya Kranti’ (Education Revolution) initiative.
The disciplinary action targets a broad range of staff, including the Block Resource Coordinator (BRC), the Head Teacher, an Associate Teacher, three Elementary Training Teachers (ETT), and an Inclusive Education Volunteer (IEAT).
Minister Bains initiated the crackdown after finding that students at the Machhiwara facility struggled to answer fundamental questions. The inspection revealed significant gaps in both school management and basic learning outcomes, prompting the Minister to demand immediate accountability from the teaching staff.
Education remains the top priority for the Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann-led administration. Bains emphasized that the government will not tolerate even an "iota of negligence" when it comes to the future of students.
The Minister's visit to Machhiwara is part of a broader statewide campaign of surprise inspections. These visits aim to evaluate academic standards, student attendance, the quality of mid-day meals, and the general upkeep of school infrastructure across Punjab.
Sharing a video clip of the inspection on social media, Bains reaffirmed that accountability at every level is essential for the success of Punjab’s public education system. He stated that the government will continue to take strict action against any dereliction of duty to ensure students receive the quality education they deserve.
