Seismological officials said it was Taiwan's most powerful earthquake in 25 years. Tsunami warnings were issued in Taiwan and neighboring countries. The effect of this earthquake has also been seen on Japan. Japan has also issued a tsunami warning. According to the United States Geological Survey, the earthquake was centered in the waters of Hualien County on Taiwan's east coast. Taiwan's Central Meteorological Administration also recorded a strong shock.
