Notorious gangster Prasad Vitthal Pujari was brought back to Mumbai from China by Mumbai Police. Interpol had also issued a Red Corner Notice against the priest who was absconding for many years. According to the police, Prasad Pujari was living in China on a temporary residence visa since 2008. To escape the grip of Indian agencies, the priest even married a Chinese woman. China agreed to hand him over to Mumbai Police. After this, a team of police officers took 44-year-old Pujari by flight to Mumbai on Saturday morning and took him to the lock-up. Pujari, a member of the Kumar Pillai gang, was absconding in several serious crime cases. His name had cropped up in a failed attempt to murder a Shiv Sena functionary, kidnapping, death threats and an extortion ring targeting prominent people in Mumbai and other places. Prasad Pujari is a resident of Vikhroli in north-eastern Mumbai. In the year 2020, Pujari, along with his mother Indira Vitthal Pujari and two others, had conspired to kidnap a builder to extort Rs 10 lakh. Mumbai Police had arrested Indira Pujari, but her son was out of their reach. During police interrogation, Indira Pujari had told that Prasad Pujari also married a Chinese woman to escape the grip of Indian agencies.
