The 14th round of talks regarding Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between Britain and India ended without any agreement. No conclusion has been reached in this round of talks. However, meanwhile a senior British official has said that an agreement on FTA will be possible after the upcoming elections in India.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi had talked to British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak before the 14th round of talks held a day earlier between the two countries on the Free Trade Agreement. In the talks, the two leaders agreed on the importance of reaching a 'historic and comprehensive agreement' that will benefit both countries. Only last week, India had signed a free trade agreement with the European group of nations.
Actually, talks on Free Trade Agreement (FTA) between India and Britain started in January 2022. So far 14 rounds of talks have taken place between the two countries. This agreement between India and Britain has 26 chapters, which mainly include goods, services, investment, and intellectual property rights.
It is noteworthy that the annual trade between India and Britain is currently around 38.1 billion pounds. At the same time, recently India signed a Free Trade Agreement (FTA) with the European Free Trade Association (EFTA), which includes Norway, Iceland, Switzerland and Liechtenstein. In this agreement, a commitment has been made to reduce tariffs, which will help India receive investment of $ 100 billion in the next 15 years.
