Kila Raipur Rural Olympics 2026 Kicks Off Tomorrow; Bullock Cart Races Return

Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain announced that the Kila Raipur Rural Olympics 2026 will commence on Tuesday, February 17, at the historic grounds of Kila Raipur village. The three-day sporting festival will spotlight traditional rural sports, with the much-anticipated return of bullock cart races as the main attraction.
The Punjab Government, led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann, has completed preparations to ensure the smooth conduct of the event. Authorities aim to revive Punjab’s rural sporting heritage and promote a stronger sports culture through the festival.
Organisers have scheduled bullock cart races across all three days, positioning them as the centrepiece of the Olympics. The event will also feature competitions in hockey, kabaddi, athletics, and several traditional games, drawing participants and spectators from across the region.
On the opening day, February 17, hockey matches in boys’ and girls’ open categories will begin at 9:00 AM at the main stadium. Athletic events, including 1500m finals, 400m races, and 60m races for primary school students, will follow. Bullock cart races will take place from noon onwards.
The second day, February 18, will shift to SSS School, Kila Raipur, where organisers will conduct hockey semi-finals, kabaddi matches, shot put events, sprint races, long jump finals, and tug of war. Bullock cart races will run in two sessions during the day.
The concluding day, February 19, will feature kabaddi fixtures, shot put finals, cycling races, high jump events, and special sprint races for senior participants aged 65 and above. Officials will also organise trolley loading competitions and tricycle races before the final round of bullock cart races in the evening.
Officials have instructed participants in age-group events to present valid birth proof. All competitors must carry their Aadhaar cards along with bank details to complete registration formalities.
To enhance the festive atmosphere, organisers have arranged live musical performances by renowned artists throughout the event.
Deputy Commissioner Himanshu Jain urged the public to attend the Rural Olympics in large numbers. He emphasised that the festival reflects Punjab’s commitment to preserving its sporting traditions while encouraging community participation in sports across Ludhiana.
