As per the directions of Punjab Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh and under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana Mr. Himanshu Jain, the Health Department, Ludhiana conducted a special inspection drive today to verify the sale and purchase of MTP (Medical Termination of Pregnancy) kits across various parts of the city. The inspections were carried out under the supervision of Sh. Dinesh Gupta, Zonal Licensing Authority (ZLA), Ludhiana. Two inspection teams, led by Smt. Rupinder Kaur, Drug Control Officer (DCO) Ludhiana-2 and Sh. Navdeep Sandhu, Drug Control Officer (DCO) Ludhiana-3, inspected different medical stores and pharmaceutical firms in the district. During the drive, a total of five firms were inspected, out of which three firms were found stocking and selling MTP kits without valid purchase bills and without issuing sale bills, which is a clear violation of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and related rules. Immediate action has been initiated against the defaulting firms, and show-cause notices will be issued. Further investigations are underway, and strict legal action will be taken as per the provisions of law. Highlighting the importance of such enforcement actions, Health Minister Dr. Balbir Singh reiterated that the Punjab Government is fully committed to preventing the misuse of MTP drugs and ensuring womenrsquos health and safety. Deputy Commissioner Mr. Himanshu Jain emphasized that illegal sale of such sensitive medicines will not be tolerated and that continuous monitoring is essential in the larger public interest. All chemists and drug retailers have been strictly directed to ensure that sale and purchase of medicines is carried out strictly as per prescribed rules and regulations. The Health Department has further clarified that such inspection drives will continue in the future to ensure compliance and to safeguard public health.
